timberland sunglasses uk Cain and Vogelsong to NL All
The defending World Series champions will be represented by four pitchers at the All Star Game July 12 at Arizona.
NL manager Bruce Bochy used three of his nine discretionary picks to take Giants: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Ryan Vogelsong. The players selected closer Brian Wilson to the team.
Vogelsong is the one guy who wasn part of the World Series team. Heck, he wasn on the 2011 opening day roster. But he been one of baseball greatest stories, making it back to the big leagues for the first time since 2006 and turning into one of the NL top pitchers.
So Bochy meeting with Vogelsong was a lot more misty eyed than the rest.
I told him, it was an emotional time, Bochy said. said I’d had some special moments in this game, and this is one of them, to tell him he’s an All Star. who starts today at Detroit, needs 7.1 innings to qualify among the league leaders. His 2.09 ERA would rank second in the NL, behind Atlanta Jair Jurrjens. Bochy knows he might catch some flak for leaving off pitchers like Tommy Hanson, Tim Hudson or Ian Kennedy. But he promised to use his prerogative and he doing exactly that.
of all, he’s deserving. Why not? Bochy said. know he’s made just 12 starts, but he’s seven innings away from qualifying for second in the league in ERA. He’s not only been a shot in the arm for us. He’s saved us. And No.2, he’s a great story, with the perseverance he’s shown in this game, and his journey to Japan and the minor leagues. spring training, he had to deal with the disappointment of being sent down. With (Barry) Zito’s injury, he got an opportunity and he ran with it. He’s had one hiccup, really. So sure, there were other candidates. But he’s deserving. has an outside chance to add Pablo Sandoval as an injury replacement. He also met with Sergio Romo and Javier Lopez to tell them he did all he could to get them on the team, but wasn able to do it.
Bochy was pleased with how the World Series champs are represented.
Yeah, I am, Bochy said. like to have a position player on there, to be honest. But we got four on there. I think we’re well represented. If Pablo doesn’t get hurt (in April, missing a month), he’d be on the team, too. always said what wins for you is pitching. You realize how lucky you are, and it’s not just these three. You can look at a Madison Bumgarner and make an argument for him, with the quality starts he’s thrown. can name replacements only for the nine guys he selected. If a player has an injury and must be replaced from the players ballot, he be replaced from the next guy on the list.
I understand that the Pirates Kevin Correia was sixth among starting pitchers on the players ballot. So he replace Cole Hamels as long as Hamels still starts on Sunday,
July 10, making him ineligible to play. Lincecum finished seventh on the players ballot.
As long as Cain also pitches on July 10, Bochy will be able to make another pick to replace him. Cain would still go and take part in festivities. He just wouldn be on the active roster.
Here are Bochy other six discretionary picks, most of which were to ensure every NL team had a representative: San Diego Heath Bell, Washington Tyler Clippard, Arizona Justin Upton, the Cubs Starlin Castro, the Mets Carlos Beltran and Florida Gaby Sanchez.
Bochy lamented not getting Ryan Howard or Aramis Ramirez on the squad.
Here are the final vote candidates, which Bochy also selected: Andre Ethier, Michael Morse, Shane Victorino, Ian Kennedy and Todd Helton. has documented the most eventful era in San Francisco Giants baseball history, having covered the team since 2004 for three major media outlets including the San Jose Mercury News and the Oakland Tribune. Baggarly’s other notable life accomplishments include running as the Bratwurst in the Milwaukee Sausage Race and becoming a three time Jeopardy! champion.
Pretty screwed Morse or Kennedy didn make it. They deserve it.
I like playing what if ? and in light of 2 players I hoped the Giants signed this past off season, think about these scenarios:
1) I was not for the Giants reamesigning Huff never liked his (lack) of game. Would have prefered the Giants move Pablo to 1st and have Beltre at 3rd.
2) Russel Martin playing great for the Yanks and I always liked his game on the Dodgers. Would have been a great option to backup Posey and perhaps allowed Posey to play 1st more just maybe he doesn get hurt.
I still think Giants should have looked harder at JJ Hardy at SS, thus never take us down the Tejada road.
no more pro Tejada posts. Even if he makes a couple of good plays and hits a random HR, he has no business being out there everyday, it hurts the team.
Today was a shame the team could not play its A game behind Voglesong. Too many failures to move runners over, execute, would have led 5 1 instead of 3 1, changed the game.
Mike Fontenot(2B) 0 for 3, BB. BA= .091. it’s not like Fonty was tearing up the National League before he got injured.
Thomas Neal is hitting .360 over his last six games with three doubles and a couple walks. He’s now hitting .312/.374/.434 on the year, good for a 97 wRC+ . Eric Surkamp has continued his fantastic 2011 campaign; over his last three starts in Double A, he’s tossed 18 innings, allowing three runs with 17 strikeouts and just three walks. In 14 starts overall, he’s posted a 2.49 FIP on the season.
Brandon Belt went 2 for 4 in his first rehab appearance, including a comeback sparking single, and San Jose ended the Ports’ 17 game win streak.
Please just cut TeNada and lets get on with it. I really don care what else we do, it we just get rid of him.
